Selected this restaurant for an occasion dinner: Mom's 60th bday. As SF natives, we have waded through the average-at-best Italian places on the North Beach 'strip' and, while food and drink have usually been good or better, service can be of another variety altogether.
Our server, Monica, was attentive and very engaging, and made our experience noteworthy! Everything about the mechanics of our experience were seamless because of her. We also got a surprise drop in from whom I can only assume was her mother and chef/wizard
Our food was fantastic, served promptly and displayed with pride or workmanship.
In talking with a friend afterward, she admitted that Franchino is her preferred occasion restaurant in SF for her and her husband also. Don't overthink it!! This place is bound to help you make some great memories. And Monica, we will be back!

First of all being a Brit  I've been to Italy a few times in the past.. this place has the BEST Italian food anywhere.. we found it by reading reviews and decided to give it a try. couldn't of been happier by our dining experience.
Family owned since May 1989 they'd just celebrated 30yrs a few weeks earlier this month. Super friendly staff, they make you feel like one of the family. The food is incredible, like I said THE BEST Italian food we've ever had (my wife is half Italian too and she agreed)
Both of us sat down and browsed across the menu and had an idea of what we wanted, our waitress ( one of the owner/chef's daughters) told us about the specials which changed our minds as the couple next to us had the same dish that we thought would hit the spot. 10 out of 10.. just check my photos and you'll see. This place is a MUST DO. We'll never go anywhere else now.
On returning to work this morning one of my clients asked where we had eaten during our weekend. In mentioning this place he said his family had been going there for years  and agreed with me.. fantastic place for some home cooked family owned Italian food

No words... except you shouldn't look further. Family owned and operated for over 30 years. All three of us kept saying it was the best food we'd ever had... EVER! Goes in the records books!

Save a bite for me!! Until next time Franchino... Grazie!

Ate dinner at Franchino. Parking in parking lot because extremely difficult street parking in North Beach. Restaurant was a small family operated business Food entrees ordered was average to good. Clam appetizer very good. Layered egg plant good. Veal marsala gravy very good, Veal needed some tenderizing. Spaghetti with squid tasted similar to our home cooking. Sausage and thin pasta tasted similar. Veal parmigiana was good, not like our home made crisp deep fried on bed of sauce and grated parma.

Wonderful family-run resto, complete with Mama in the dining room, chatting with customers. And speaking of Mama, had her homemade papardelle with sausage (a special of the day), and special doesn't even begin to describe the fabulosity that was this pasta! The hub had veal saltimbocca, and it too was great, a notch above the usual. Every time we come to SF, we come here ... and every time we leave happy (and stuffed)! They don't make old school restaurants like this any more, which is such a shame. A true gem both for the food and the atmosphere!
